ScaleMP has announced support for IBM System x iDataPlex dx360 M3, featuring the latest Intel processors. When used together, ScaleMP's vSMP Foundation and the iDataPlex dx360 M3 solution delivers a versatile, flexible solution optimized for high-performance computing (HPC) environments.
vSMP Foundation aggregates multiple, industry-standard off-the-shelf x86 servers (rack mounted or blade systems) into one single virtual high-end system for the HPC market. vSMP Foundation provides customers with an alternative to traditional, expensive symmetrical multiprocessor (SMP) hardware systems, and also enables users to manage clusters under a single operating system. It supports aggregation of up to 128 servers into a single virtual SMP system, providing customers with:
Up to 64 TB of shared memory for large memory requirements Up to 1,024 processors (8,192 cores) virtual SMP, proven scalability and record-breaking memory bandwidth Ease of use and lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) for applications, with simplified cluster management and storage architecture Improved cluster utilization by providing a centralized and consolidated architecture
The IBM System x iDataPlex dx360 M3 is designed for data centers that require high performance, yet are constrained on floor space, power and cooling infrastructure. It provides an innovative, half-depth solution optimized for maximum density and incredible efficiency. Featuring the latest Intel Xeon Processor 5600 series and 16 DDR-3 DIMM memory sockets and two PCIe x16 Gen 2 slots, the dx360 M3 is easy to manage and delivers outstanding performance in a flexible platform that can be tailored for a data center's processing, storage or I/O needs. For High Performance Computing (HPC) requirements, the dx360 M3 allows you to pack accelerated processing into the same power and cooling envelope as traditional servers, better utilizing floor space and optimizing the data center. The flexible design of the dx360 M3 enables the right compute, storage or I/O capabilities required for a specific application.
"The innovative iDataPlex dx360 M3 offers an outstanding platform for HPC customers with its half-depth form factor, reduced power and cooling requirements, flexible compute, storage and I/O requirements," said Dave Jursik, VP, IBM Deep Computing. "By combining it with on-demand provisioning of ScaleMP's vSMP Foundation customers can utilize single infrastructure for clusters and shared memory system. The main benefit is that large memory and large core count workloads as well as parallel workloads coexist within the same deployment, increasing the overall utilization, while simplifying the overall installation and management of the system."
"vSMP Foundation software, combined with the iDataPlex dx360 M3 system offers terrific value for HPC customers by enabling on-demand SMP, shaping the system to customer's requirements, while delivering top performance, large memory and cost savings," said Shai Fultheim, founder and CEO of ScaleMP. "This offering uses a common infrastructure for all HPC workload scenarios, increasing utilization and driving lower TCO."
