TOKYO, JAPAN -- Fujitsu Limited, Fujitsu Prime Software Technologies Limited (Fujitsu PST) and Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. today announced their success in realizing the world's first high-performance Linux cluster system using Direct Access File System (DAFS) high-speed file sharing protocol and InfiniBand (TM) inter-memory data transfer. The new system achieves six times the data transfer efficiency during file read with only 1/17th the CPU utilization rate in comparison with standard NFS (Network File System) solutions. This breakthrough will enable the creation of systems optimized for use in the fields of biotechnology, fluid analysis and structural analysis. Fujitsu's PRIMERGY Intel-based server platform was used for the new cluster system, together with Fujitsu PST's DAFS-based high-speed common file system, PSTorage InfiniFS. The system consists of a single file server running DAFS, 16 (32CPU) DAFS clients loaded with high-performance SCore cluster software linked using InfiniBand technology. Fujitsu PST is moving toward commercial release of PSTorage InfiniFS, and a trial installation of the new cluster system at Japan's High Energy Accelerator Research Organization is planned for April 2002. The system is being demonstrated at the Intel Developers Forum, Spring 2002 (Feb 25 - 28), which is being held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California.
