Cray Inc. Announces Cray X1 Supercomputer Order from India
Global supercomputer leader Cray Inc. announced that it has received an order for a Cray X1 supercomputer system from the Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), Mumbai (Bombay), India. The order came through Hinditron, Cray's representative in India. Financial terms were not disclosed. "The Institute is pleased to be associated with Cray Inc., which produces state-of-the-art supercomputers. Acquiring the Cray X1 supercomputer is part of our commitment to provide the scientists at TIFR the best facilities for research. This will enable our scientists to address important frontline scientific questions in lattice gauge theory that are also at the frontiers of computation," said TIFR Director S. Bhattacharya.
"We are proud to add the Tata Institute, a leading global research organization, to our list of customers," said Cray Chairman and CEO Jim Rottsolk. "We are also pleased that a company as capable as Hinditron represents Cray in India and secured the first Cray X1 order on the subcontinent."
